Christos Boutopoulos is an Associate Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at the Université de Montréal (UdeM), Canada. Prior to joining UdeM, he held postdoctoral positions at Polytechnique Montréal (Canada) and the University of St Andrews (UK). He holds a PhD in Applied Physics, an MSc in Microsystems, and a BEng from the National Technical University of Athens, Greece. Dr. Boutopoulos founded his laboratory in 2016 at the Centre de recherche de l’Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont. He leads an interdisciplinary team dedicated to developing innovative vision technologies. His laboratory has developed image-guided systems aimed at improving the safety and efficacy of retinal surgery and has extensively advanced bioprinting technologies toward ophthalmic tissue regeneration applications through both fundamental and translational work. His ongoing work focuses on both robotic-integrated and handheld bioprinting systems for corneal regeneration, with the goal of translating these technologies into clinical solutions for vision restoration.
